From the IT World to the World of Mandala Art — This Is My Story

How I Got Here

How I Got Here

Varalakshmi Bharanidharan — Mandala Artist & Art Therapist

I did not start here.

My first professional life was in the IT field — building, running, entrepreneuring. But through all of it, one thing never left me. A deep, quiet love for painting. A pull toward art that I had pushed aside to pursue business.

At some point, I decided I could not push it aside any longer.

I went back to art. Formally. I completed my Bachelor of Fine Arts — and it felt like coming home.

But it was one word that changed everything.

Mandala.

Something about that word — the sound of it, the shape of it, what it seemed to hold — made me deeply curious. I began to learn about it. What it was. Where it came from. What it meant. And the more I learned, the more I was pulled in.

That curiosity led me to study Mandala Art alongside ancient science — the patterns found in nature, ancient temples, and Vedic knowledge — as a complete art form. Not just as something to draw, but as something to understand at its roots.

And then something unexpected happened.

When I practised it — really practised it — I entered a completely different zone of mind. Still. Clear. Calm. The kind of stillness I had never found anywhere else.

That experience told me something. This art was not just beautiful. It was therapeutic.

That realisation led me to study Art Therapy — formally, from a renowned international university.

This knowledge — the art, the ancient science, the therapy — needed to be shared. Not kept to myself.

So I founded Varaaz Arts — to teach this art form in its most authentic form.

And then something happened that sealed my purpose completely.

I began to see what this art could do for people who were struggling. People facing real, difficult challenges — physically, emotionally, mentally. I used Mandala Art as a supportive therapy alongside their care. And the results I witnessed — the shifts, the calm, the healing — showed me something I will never forget.

"This art has a purpose. And so do I." — Varalakshmi Bharanidharan

I feel deeply blessed to have found it. And everything I do at Varaaz Arts is driven by one desire — to share this purpose with as many people as I can.

Three Pillars. One Practice. Very Few Hold All Three.

Varaaz Arts stands at the intersection of three distinct disciplines. Very few practitioners in India hold formal training in all three. Varalakshmi is one of them.

Pillar One

Art Therapy

Formally trained in Art Therapy — a clinical discipline that uses the creative process as a tool for emotional healing, self-expression, and psychological wellbeing. Varalakshmi holds a Master's Diploma in Art Therapy from California State University Long Beach.

Learnt under Mrs. Asha

Pillar Two

Sacred Geometry

Deeply trained in the cosmological patterns and mathematical frameworks of Sacred Geometry — the ancient science of shapes that appear in nature, temples, the human body, and the universe. These patterns are the foundation of every mandala Varalakshmi creates.

Learnt under Jain 108

Pillar Three

Scripture as Art

Trained in drawing from ancient Scripture references — sacred texts and Vedic knowledge — and translating that wisdom into visual art. This gives every mandala at Varaaz Arts a layer of meaning that goes beyond pattern or aesthetics.

Learnt under Dr. Prabhakar Rao

"Varaaz Arts stands at the intersection of Art Therapy, Sacred Geometry, and Scripture-rooted art. Very few practitioners in India hold formal training in all three. Varalakshmi is one of them — and Varaaz Arts is where all three come together."

What Drives Me Every Day

I believe that art is not separate from life. It is a way of understanding life.

The mandala is one of the oldest art forms in the world — and it has survived because it speaks to something in us that words cannot reach. The patterns in a mandala are the same patterns in nature, in the human body, in the ancient wisdom of this land.

When someone sits with this art — or draws it themselves — they are not just making something beautiful. They are connecting to something ancient, something real, something that was always meant to help them find their way back to themselves.

"I found my purpose through this art. My work is to help you find something through it too." — Varalakshmi Bharanidharan
